What) The boyhood home of Buffalo Bill Cody is located in the broad valley of the Wapsipinicon River, a short 20 minute drive from I-80. The 1847 farmhouse was built by Buffalo Bill's father, Isaac Cody out of native limestone and contains walnut floors and trim.

The Homestead has been restored and furnished with items typical of the mid-19th century. Cody Homestead is nestled in a scenic hillside overlooking the rich Iowa prairie where buffalo graze on the land surrounding the house. The Cody Homestead is air conditioned. (1)

Where) 28050 230th Avenue     Open daily from 9-5 in April - October   Adults $2

Why) I put this item on the list because I thought Pam might enjoy going to see the herd of buffalo.  As it turns out, the buffalo were in the back pasture behind a fence but Pam was more interested in looking at the the small shack we found.  It was one of the few items on the trip that she actually requested I take pictures of.

This is an early picture of Buffalo Bill Cody. (2)

Here is the small shack on the property that we both assumed was the one ...

... that Buffalo Bill was born in.   As I discovered later, ...

... it was probably this house that was supposedly nearby. (3)
