What) An indoor waterfall greets you as you prepare to celebrate America's great rivers. The immersive RiverWays gallery invites you to enter a canal, explore a river cave and discover the history, culture, artifacts and people of the diverse and watery interior of the United States. "Rivers to the Sea" traces the story of water and rivers as they flow from streams to rivers to the ocean. Enjoy four salt-water aquariums including our 40,000 gallon Gulf of Mexico tank holding sharks, rays and the beautiful schooling fish found at the mouth of the Mississippi. Other aquariums are filled with river creatures including catfish, sturgeon, alligator gar, ducks, turtles and alligators. (1)

    Where) 350 East 3rd Street        Open daily from 10:00am - 5:00pm      Adults $15.00      1-563-557-9545

What) During the winter, large numbers of Bald Eagles can be seen above the locks and dams on the Mississippi River. The open water provides a place for the eagles to fish. It is estimated that as many as 2,500 eagles spend the winter along the river between Minneapolis and St. Louis. Bald Eagles can often be seen south of Lock and Dam #11 in Dubuque and at O’Leary Lake on the Wisconsin side of the dam. The Mines of Spain in Dubuque has a mounted scope at the Julien Dubuque Monument and eagles are often seen in that area. Eagles can also be seen south of Lock and Dam #10 in Guttenberg and south of Lock and Dam #12 in Bellevue. (2)

Why) Pam likes animals more than she likes people so I thought she would enjoy both of these activities.  For some reason, neither eagle spotting nor a visit to the river aquarium were appealing to her.  I did find some nice pictures for you to look at though.

I really like this picture of the aquarium. (3)

Here is one of the resident turtles.

I picked up this brochure in a hotel lobby.

I would like to be good enough to have taken this picture. (5)
