What) We spent a week in Dallas and these are just some pictures of things that I discovered during that time.

Where) Clouds on Interstate 35, The Ritz-Carlton at 2121 McKinney Ave, Forever Eagles on 1601 Elm Street and the Sunny Food Mart at 353 Singleton Boulevard.

Why) I like them all but I didn't think they merited their own section.

I liked the wispy, swirly nature of this cloud that I saw during the drive into Dallas on March 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm.

Although I liked the spotty clouds above the Ritz-Carlton I did prefer looking at the hotel itself. Perhaps ...

... I would have enjoyed seeing this view inside the spa but this is not something we think about doing. (1)  We prefer discovering ...

... sculptures of animals. Gerald Balciar's 1993 sculpture, Forever Eagles, is noted for its meticulous realism, which is grounded in his in-depth knowledge of animals. This copper-colored bronze sculpture on a massive granite base, captures a powerful eagle mid-flight. (2)

Those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles,
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (on the plaque at the base)

A quick Google Image search for Gerald Balciar turned up this Bugling Elk sculpture that I would like to see in person. (3)

My favourite find around Dallas was this Shepard Fairey mural titled "Rise Above" located on the back side of the Sunny Food Mart.

Much of Fairey's artistic work feels strange to my mainstream sensibilities but I do like something about these two posters. (4) (5)
