What) Ron Baird's Spirit Catcher is a sculpture originally created for Expo 86 in Vancouver.  The twenty ton, 70 foot wide by 65 foot high sculpture was transported to Barrie using two flatbed trucks, and was installed by volunteers using two cranes. The sculpture has 16 kinetic quills which rock back and forth when the wind blows. The sculpture is a focal point on the Barrie waterfront, and serves as both a meeting place and navigational aid.     Where) Outside the MacLaren Art Centre which is at 37 Mulcaster Street

Why) The small picture that I saw of the sculpture beforehand convinced me that this would be a worthwhile stop.  It turned out to be better than that because of the interesting combination of sun, clouds and blue skies that was waiting for us.

This is only a small part of the main sculpture that I have repeated three times.  To me it looks like a primitive, weather altering alien.

The entire sculpture is beautiful as well.

I got Pam to lean against this column like she was trying to hold it up.
