What) The Roe River runs between Giant Springs and the Missouri River in Great Falls, Montana. The Roe River is only 61 meters (201 feet) at its longest constant point. In 1989, a successful campaign to get the Roe River recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the shortest river in the world originated from students at Lincoln Elementary School in Great Falls, Montana. (1) Luckily it's not the only attraction -- there is a fairly nice park as well as a Lewis and Clark interpretive center on the way there. Up the road, there's a place called Rainbow Dam with a pretty little scenic overlook, poised so you can glance out at the water flowing from the dam there. (2)

Rainbow Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Missouri River, 29 feet (8.8 m) high and 1,055 feet (322 m) long, located six miles northeast of Great Falls and just upstream of Rainbow Falls, a 45 ft (14m) waterfall that is the third of the five Great Falls of the Missouri. (3)

Why) Back in March, when were on our California Buckys trip, we were scheduled to stop here but it was dark and foggy on the day we drove through, so we skipped it.  This time it was warm and sunny so it looks like we made the right choice.
