What) Known as "The Ozarks' Strangest Dwelling," Quigley's Castle is more of an odd stone house than a castle. Ms. Quigley demolished the original house that she and her husband were living in while her husband was away so that he would have to help her build this strange, new dwelling. The ploy seems to have worked. Perhaps the best feature of the house is that trees grow on the inside of the large glass windows. The house is completely covered in, as well as filled with, many of Mrs. Quigley's rock and bottle sculptures.

Tours are daily and generally self-guided. Children under 14 get in free while adults pay $6.50. Quigley's Castle is in operation from April to October. Hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm but they are closed Sundays and Thursdays.  The castle may or may not be open on certain occasions in November and March. (1)

Where) AR Hwy 23, four miles south of Eureka Springs on Quigley Castle Road. 479-253-8311

Why) This is exactly the type of item that would have appeared on a Buckys list for this trip if I had made one.  As it happens, we were driving through the area at the suggestion of a bridge player we met in Houston.  I found the Quigley brochure in the hotel lobby but we had already driven 30 minutes past it so we decided to keep going back to Regina.

The grounds around Quigley Castle are nice but ... (2)
